The warmer weather is here and with it comes fleas, ticks and mosquitoes.

Make sure your pet is up to date on their heartworm blood test which is recommended to be done annually in our hospital. There are a number of effective products on the market that will prevent infection. Medications such as Heartgard will kill the immature stage of the parasite so that it can never develop into an adult worm. The American Heartworm Society, www.heartwormsociety.org recommends year round preventative.
